About Us

Idol Workshop was founded out of a desire to push the envelope of what is both expected and possible with rapid prototyping through digital sculpting.  We push the technology by testing its' limits, and often finding them. It's only through this process that we're able to improve upon the quality of what we produce, and improve upon ourselves as artists.

We're very fortunate to have dynamically partnered up with Sideshow Collectibles to spearhead their digital initiative.  From the onset our goal was to keep the artwork first and foremost, and not build an altar to the digital toolbox.  On the contrary, concealing any evidence that the final products were created through digital means is a significant part of our mission.

Idol Workshop was founded out of a desire to provide proof positive that utilizing a near completely digital pipeline in the realm of the collectibles industry could be profitable, advantageous over traditional means, and remain free of  the stigma that has haunted digital sculpting in this niche of the industry up to this point in time.  Our success is based on the audience judging the final product on artistic merit alone, not the method of its creation.

There are quite a few companies out there who have already integrated a digital pipeline into their production process, many did this nearly a decade before Sideshow, and while some of us are former employees of these other companies, it was evident that they did not get the bigger picture of the capabilities and purpose of the digital tool set.  It's our belief that they have willingly chained themselves to the ground, not allowing the pipeline to grow to its full potential. Sideshow recognized this, and opened up their production process completely to the digital process.  Not to say that their pipeline is entirely digital, as this is definitely not the case. However, their willingness to allow its integration to be an organic process and follow it wherever it proves of benefit is what has put the work, and our business relationship, above others who have attempted to do the same.
